Athletic Edge FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
DO YOU NEED A PRESCRIPTION FROM A DOCTOR FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY?
No. The state of Illinois allows for direct patient access, which means a doctor's referral is not needed to be seen for physical therapy services. Physical Therapists have the tools required to treat injuries and conditions without seeing a medical doctor/physician first. If we determine that the attention of a medical doctor/diagnostic testing is needed, we will refer you to the appropriate doctor based on your symptoms/condition.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
The good news is that we don't take insurance.
Let us ask you a few questions that will help to explain why:
Would you rather be treated by the same dedicated physical therapist 1-on-1 for an hour OR be treated by a physical therapist who is treating 2-4 other patients simultaneously? Some facilities only treat for 30 minutes: is that enough treatment time what your athlete needs to play 4 quarters of football or play in weekend tournament?
Would you rather be treated by the same physical therapist or just be put on the schedule randomly with whatever therapist has an opening? Would you like to know what your therapist's experience and specialties are and do they have the experience to treat your condition or understand your sports goals?
Would you like a large majority of your treatment session carried out by an aide (not monitoring your form, not being able to answer your questions, while answering the phone/scheduling other patients, or doing exercises you could just be doing at home)?
Would you rather attend therapy 1-2x/week for 6-10 visits or be seen 3x/week for 6-8 weeks? How much is your time worth?
Would you rather be treated with a full body approach OR just focus one area that's experiencing pain which may not be the root cause?
Our clinic specializes in treating athletes who are looking to get back to playing sports. I have always had a special interest in treating athletes; having played softball, volleyball and basketball myself and then having 3 boys who have all been very involved in many sports.
The insurance companies don’t care if you get better–they only care about saving themselves money. They often put up barriers to limit your care.
CAN I USE MY HEALTH SAVING ACCOUNT OR FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNT?
Yes!! If you need a detailed invoice, please let us know.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Patients should wear comfortable clothing and footwear that allows them to move freely while exercising.
WHEN CAN I SCHEDULE?
New patients can generally within 24-48 hours. We offer late nights and weekend appointments; we know jobs, school, and athletic schedules can be hard to work around but our goal is to maximize and expedite patient you recovery.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU HAVE?
We have everything a traditional physical therapy clinics have and more! Don't let our size fool you. Equipment does not dictate your clinical outcome, your therapists skill set does.
